What work do facilitators need to do themselves around DEI, before leading DEI-related conversations? This MAFN Racial Justice Community of Practice session will focus on what kinds of education, certification, and other preparations facilitators should consider in order to be effective at facilitating conversations around diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, belonging, and/or justice (DEIA/B/J).  Join us for a conversation with Sukari Pinnock Fitts, MSOD, PCC, drawing upon her years of experience as a consultant, and the designer of and former Program Director for Georgetown’s Executive Certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (part of the Georgetown Institute for Transformational Leadership).

PLEASE NOTE: MAFN Communities of Practice are only open to MAFN members.

About the Speaker:

Sukari is a cisgender woman, using the pronouns she, her, and they.  A member of the African diaspora, she is a heterosexual Baby Boomer, living with a hidden disability and some degree of socio-economic privilege as a U.S. National. She has no religious affiliation, believing strongly that the "universe provides." She is the daughter of a Jamaican immigrant father and a South Carolinian mother and was raised with one sibling in a working-class, multi-racial neighborhood in Los Angeles. Now residing in Northern Virginia, on the unceded tribal lands of the eradicated  Nacotchtank (Anacostan) indigenous people, Sukari has been developing leaders in all sectors for over 20 years.  She supports clients in the U.S. and abroad – virtually and face-to-face.  She is a devoted partner/spouse, a proud parent to three amazing human beings, and a favorably biased “Nona” to three delightful grandsons.

Sukari is a seasoned Organization Development (OD) Consultant and Leadership Coach (PCC).  She specializes in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility; Leadership and executive Development; Organization Transitions; Polarity Management; and Team Building. She is the owner and CEO of Shiftwork Consulting.  Her Master’s degree in Organization Development is from the American University. Her undergraduate degree, in Labor Studies, is from the National Labor College.  She holds a Coaching Certificate from the Georgetown Leadership Coaching Program, a Diversity Practitioner’s Certificate from the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science, a Certificate in Gestalt OD and Leadership Development from the iGOLD Center, and is certified by andiron as a Polarities Navigator Practitioner.

An Adjunct Professor in the Human Resources Management Master’s Degree Program for the Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies, Sukari is the designer of and former Program Director for Georgetown’s Executive Certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, which is part of the Georgetown Institute for Transformational Leadership (ITL). She sits on the Board of the Association of Coach Training Organizations (ACTO) and is a member of the Editorial Board of the NTL Journal, Practising Social Change.  She is a co-creator of the Fifth Domain Coaching Model™ – a coach training framework designed to help coaches and clients navigate the domain of social group identity. Sukari is a former member of the Human Rights Committee for Arlington County, Virginia – the community in which she lives and works.
