MAFN's September 30th Online Workshop: The Empathy Decathlon

  • 09/30/2022
  • 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
  • Online using Zoom

Registration

Duration: 3-hour workshop

About the workshop:

The Empathy Decathlon is an empathy training framework based on academic research, business case studies, and innovation practices. It consists of ten micro-skills that help individuals, teams, companies, and communities understand and continually cultivate self-empathy and cultures founded in empathy.

The full decathlon consists of five "me" skills including energy, baggage, self awareness, inventory, hearing and five "we" skills that include responding, asking, meaning, feedback, and lead.

Afterwards, we will leave time for open discussion and networking.

Learning Objectives

In this session, participants will:

  • Participants will walk away with increased self awareness/emotional intelligence and capacity for self care.

Participants will build interpersonal communication skills that will empower them to connect with their facilitated audience.

Participants will gain deeper wisdom into the concept of "Empathy" overall which has become a watered-down, overused buzzword in our industry.

NOTE: This workshop will be recorded for distribution to all who register (breakout rooms will not be recorded).

This is a 3-hour online workshop. It will take place from 12:00pm to 3pm Eastern.

Theresa Ward is a Culture + Communications Consultant - her mission is to help teams get things done and enjoy the journey. Her previous roles in sales, product innovation, and relationship management all shaped her training approach that combines personal experiences with cognitive behavioral research. As the owner of The Fiery Feather, Theresa leads workshops and projects for organizational effectiveness across various industries including Utilities, Non-Profit, Theater, Hospitality, and Healthcare. She is a certified yoga instructor, a furmom, and a total TED Talk nerd.

Shelton Davis would rather hear your story than tell his. An experienced product and UX designer, researcher, and team leader, he believes in our collective power to listen, understand, and create positive global change. In 2017, Shelton channeled 15+ years of human-centered innovation knowledge and his lifelong passion for personal connection into one huge group project: Empathy Lab. After a year of prototyping, testing, rinsing and repeating, he launched the first and only 10-skill training series designed to (re)condition our empathy muscles and empower collective success from the inside out. Inspired by Shelton’s own physical, mental and emotional education as a competitive athlete, the Empathy Decathlon is fully engaging, research- backed, refreshingly accessible, and 100% led by example. Shelton lives, hikes, drinks coffee, dances, and practices empathy daily in Atlanta, GA with his three greatest loves: his wife Laura, daughter Juliette, and son Grayson.
