The Consensus Workshop is a specific method used to gain knowledge and insights from all group members. The process enhances creativity and cooperation and productively channels diverse ideas into decisions that everyone can own and support. This process is high energy, fun, and delivers concrete results that groups can take to advance their plans and projects. For many groups it becomes a core tool for planning, community engagement, and learning.  (Be sure to participate in the companion webinar, The Focused Conversation, on April 10th!)

Participants will:

  • Learn a method to engage all group members and gain consensus on key action steps.
  •  Understand how to organize a group’s ideas and thoughts to build effective partnerships in a short time frame.
  • Explore how to gain buy-in and ownership on sensitive or difficult topics from all members of a group.

About the Presenters

Lewis Flax (Flax Associates)specializes in assisting nonprofit organizations generate corporate support through developing sponsorship/partnership programs, board development initiatives, and business development guidance. 

Lewis has extensive experience in training and facilitation as he has led numerous board retreats and customized workshops for nonprofits.  He regularly co-leads the ToP (Technology of Participation) introductory facilitation program, is a certified Dale Carnegie trainer (Skills for Success, Winning with Relationship Selling), an AFP Master Trainer, and a member of NSA (National Speakers Association). 

Prior to establishing his own firm in 2008, he served as a Vice President for IEG (a consulting firm) responsible for the nonprofit/association sector in Washington, DC, and served on the leadership team at Financial Executives International (FEI). 

Derry Deringer (Deringer Consulting) is certified as a fundraising executive (CFRE), culture facilitator (PCF) and professional coach (CPCC). Derry draws from over 25 years of experience with nonprofit, business and international organizations. 

Derry delivers expertise, tools and strategies to help nonprofits, international NGO’s and associations accelerate their growth through better fundraising and better strategic planning. 

Previously, Derry served as director of corporate and foundation relations and director of major gifts for World Food Program USA (WFP USA), a Washington DC based nonprofit that supports the UN World Food Program (WFP).

If registrant pays for an individual MAFN workshop session and contacts info@mafn.org to cancel before the registration deadline, MAFN will either credit the full registration fee towards a future workshop or process a refund, less a processing fee of $10. No refunds after registration deadline has passed.
