Many facilitators have some tools for dealing with disruptors and are always on the lookout for more, to maintain professional competence and reputation. But many lack a framework for identifying gaps in their ability to respond ahead of time and for picking the right tool in the heat of the moment.  This workshop will help the participant to:

  • Learn and understand the Respect participants/Protect the process/Sustain long term engagement (RPS) framework for dealing with disruptors.
  • Apply the RPS framework in the moment during a meeting or process to take in the situation, understand it, and respond appropriately.
  • Learn ways to give yourself more “room to work” in the moment when it becomes necessary to deal with disruptors in your facilitation work.
  • Use the RPS framework to assess the facilitation tools and skills already in your toolkit, especially those you use to deal with disruptions, and identify any significant gaps where additional tools or approaches would be useful.
  • Learn additional disruption handling techniques, drawing on three provided by the workshop leader, and others provided by fellow participants.
  • Identify lower risk opportunities to practice the application of the RPS framework and new skills for dealing with disruptors in upcoming work.
