Swimming in Symbolism: Using symbolism to facilitate transformation

Jump into the deep water of symbolism and learn a framework to use it as a facilitation tool to support clients in having new conversations, moments of insight, and deep transformation. This interactive session will help you understand the theoretical underpinnings and practical applications of using symbolism and imagery to design and facilitate meaningful experiences.


Participants will walk away with:
  • An understanding of what symbolism is, why it is important as a facilitation tool, and   when it is most effective to use
  • An understanding of the theory behind using symbolism in change and facilitation
  • A framework to attend to and use symbolism
  • A personal image for positive transformation

Rebecca Slocum is an OD consultant, specializing in symbolic analysis and narrative design. The bulk of her work has been related to change, collaborative design, and leadership initiatives in multi-stakeholder and large client systems. She is also a writer and poet. She is certified in the EQ-i 2.0 model for emotional intelligence and has her MSOD from American University and BA from Boston University.


Previous to working in transformation and organization development, Rebecca worked in the field of international relations, with a focus on sustainable economic  development. She traveled abroad extensively to engage stakeholders in collaborative discussions and processes to design sustainable programs and policies. This work includes time spent as a contractor for the U.S. Department of State and as a knowledge management professional in the large, international non-profit Accion International.

If you pay for an individual MAFN workshop session and cancel before the registration deadline, MAFN will either credit your full registration fee towards a future workshop or process a refund, less a processing fee.


There will be no refunds or credits for cancellations received after the registration deadline.


Refunds, less a processing fee, are only available for workshop series subscribers until the September workshop of each year.
