ex.pe.ri.ence – n. the fact or state of having been affected by or gained knowledge through direct observation or participation – Merriam-Webster
Often, as facilitators, after being asked “what do you do?” we are given a look of boredom and disinterest when the words “I am a facilitator” come out of our mouths. Try adding “…of experiences” or “…of changing lives” to the end of that big, bad, ugly word ‘facilitator’ and see what type of reaction you get. Facilitators are not and should not be people we entrust to merely keep track of time and systematically go through workshop #1, #2, #3. Facilitators are much more than that and deserve to be recognized for it – especially when a retreat is involved. This workshop will not only include some sure fire ways for facilitators to keep people motivated and busy on retreats, but more importantly, it will make a facilitator look like a rock star. Look at the bigger picture of the responsibility to “facilitate.” Look at it from the standpoint that it means facilitator of life, of challenges, of overcoming obstacles, of planning, of organizing, of … then he or she will be looked at with a tremendous amount of respect and admiration. What better time to show that off at a retreat. There is much to do – and we will show how to facilitate these off sites in an easy, fun and successful way.
Rebecca L. Twitchell began her career of “do good” ventures throughout the East Coast working in non-profit, community development and public policy. This changed slightly when she met her partners Kraus and Bowman in the “do good for money” world of 3E Company in San Diego, CA. There, she ran the Marketing and Public Relations efforts for the multi-million dollar hazardous materials information management company. Not sexy enough for this young do gooder entrepreneur, Twitchell partnered with Kraus and Bowman to form half full, llc – a “do more good for money” company inspired by having overcome some difficult obstacles in life. Her commitment to Half Full, LLC includes marketing, public relations, accounting, event and experience planning, facilitating and strategic planning. In a nut shell - she basically tells half full’s story, pays the bills and causes trouble between her partners while making sure everyone has a “full” glass of wine in his / her hand.
Twitchell graduated from the Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syracuse University with a degree in Public Policy. She later went on to further her education at the University of California, San Diego with studies in Marketing. Thanks to the relationships she has encountered throughout her life, whether through the endless conversations with her patrons while tending bar or co-teaching strategic planning classes with Half Full, LLC clients looking for strategic planning support, she, like Kraus and Bowman, is a connector of people and seeks fulfillment in helping people overcome their own personal and / or professional obstacles.
In her spare time, Twitchell is actively involved with the Maxwell School of Citizenship at SU as well as the Feinstein Institute for Public Service of Providence College where she is working to continue her father’s legacy of community development within the neighborhood in which she grew up. If she’s not with her partners on one of several Forwards facilitated throughout the year, you can find her belting out the latest tunes in her car while heading to her next engagement.
